3 TOP Nutrients to Battle Brain Aging
I’m going to give it to you straight. You may be living on borrowed time when it comes to dodging cognitive decline.
Because chances are, if you don’t take active steps to care for your brain health NOW, you’ll end up paying the price in the future.
But the good news is it’s probably not nearly as hard as you might think.
Because the best way to give your brain what it needs to fire on all cylinders today AND in the future is to make the right diet and lifestyle choices.
You just can’t beat simple things like reasonable exercise, quality sleep, an active social life, and whole foods to keep your brain in tip-top shape.
But I get it. Sometimes (despite our best intentions), we still need a little extra help filling in the gaps.
And today, I’m going to reveal three of the best brain boosters to help you do precisely that.
When you need a little extra brain support, give these 3 top nutrients for optimal brain health a try.
- Folate.
There’s clearly a connection between folate and Alzheimer’s disease.
One review found that adults with Alzheimer’s were 88 percent more likely to be deficient in folate. On the other hand, those who obtained the recommended daily allowance of folate were 56 percent less likely to have Alzheimer’s.
Folate reduces systemic inflammation, a key factor in Alzheimer’s development.
Folate-rich foods include beef liver, leafy green vegetables, and whole grains. If you don’t eat plenty of these, consider a folate supplement.
- Fish oil
When it comes to brain health, it doesn’t get much better than fish oil, which contains the omega-3s DHA and EPA.
Not having enough DHA is associated with smaller brains and worse cognitive performance. On the other hand, studies have shown that people with the highest amounts of EPA have a 24 percent lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
- Vitamin D
A hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease is the accumulation of harmful proteins called beta-amyloid plaque. Studies show that vitamin D helps the immune system remove this plaque from your brain.
One recent study showed that adults with vitamin D deficiency were 54 percent more likely to have dementia than those with normal levels.
I always recommend getting your D directly from the sun. If you can’t get adequate levels this way, consider a supplement.
Be sure to have your blood levels of vitamin D tested so that you don’t overdo it.
P.S. It’s not just your BRAIN that craves sunlight. A daily dose of sun delivers benefits from head to toe. Click through to discover 6 reasons you need MORE sunlight.
