The Greatest Cholesterol Myth DEBUNKED
When it comes to your heart health, you’ve been told that cholesterol is Enemy #1.
It’s the biggest MYTH of modern medicine.
And unfortunately, it has some serious staying power. After all, they’ve been telling this whopper for years.
But now, a recent study just CONFIRMED that there’s a much greater threat to your heart. This menace sends your risk skyrocketing no matter what your cholesterol reading is.
The good news is there’s a simple fix. And it doesn’t involve hopping aboard the prescription drug merry-go-round.
It’s really quite simple. If you want a healthy heart, you have to have healthy arteries.
In a recent study, researchers used an animal model of a human arterial wall injury to identify the greatest threat to your artery health.
(Hint: It isn’t cholesterol.)
This study found that running low in B vitamins contributes to arterial damage regardless of whether or not you have high cholesterol.
In other words, a B vitamin deficiency could be FAR more harmful to your heart than if your cholesterol is high.
You see, these nutrients are responsible for many critical tasks, from breaking down carbohydrates to transporting nutrients throughout your body.
But one of the MOST vital is breaking down the amino acid homocysteine into other chemicals your body needs.
Without adequate B6, B12, and folate, homocysteine levels increase. That can cause DIRECT DAMAGE to the inner lining of your arteries.
But the troubles don’t end there. High homocysteine can cause your blood to clot more easily.
This increases the risk of a blockage that can contribute to a heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolism (based on where the clot occurs).
The bottom line: The greatest threat to the health of your arteries is NOT high cholesterol… It’s high homocysteine. And getting adequate B vitamins is the key to managing your homocysteine levels.
But there’s a catch.
Studies have found that simply supplementing with B vitamins doesn’t reduce homocysteine levels.
Instead, a diet change is in order.
- For more folate, eat leafy greens like spinach, beans, and lentils.
- For more B6, eat bananas, chickpeas, and chicken.
- For more B12, eat dairy products, organ meats, and beef.
Do your heart a favor, quit worrying so much about your cholesterol and focus on dialing down homocysteine levels instead.
P.S. Millions of Americans are on cholesterol-lowering statins, yet it hasn’t put a dent in heart attacks and strokes. Because the underlying cause of many major cardiovascular events has nothing to do with cholesterol. Click through for the TRUTH.
