WHO Warns Against Artificial Sweeteners
When word got out that sugar was bad for you, a new market emerged for artificial sweeteners.
They were supposed to be a better option—especially for your waistline.
Now we know better.
In fact, the science is SO definitive that the World Health Organization (WHO) has now issued new guidelines advising people to avoid artificial sweeteners altogether.
Right on the heels of these guidelines is a new study showing yet another reason why you’ll want to give one of these fake sugars the boot ASAP.
This time it’s been tied to the big C: Cancer.
Sucralose is sold under the brand name Splenda. Those are the yellow packets you see stacked on restaurant tables.
When your body digests sucralose, it forms a chemical called sucralose-6-acetate. Small amounts of the chemical are also found directly in sucralose itself.
New research revealed that sucralose-6-acetate is genotoxic, which means it causes DNA damage.
In fact, a recent study showed in in-vitro experiments that the artificial-sweetener-linked chemical actually broke up DNA in cells that were exposed to it.
And, of course, damaged DNA paves the way for cancer formation.
Here’s what may be the MOST shocking part of this revelation… Even ONE Splenda-sweetened drink per day exceeds the amount deemed to be toxic.
And that only accounts for the small amount of sucralose-6-acetate in the artificial sweetener itself—and NOT what your body CONVERTS to sucralose-6-acetate.
This was a follow-up study to other research showing that sucralose negatively affects gut health.
So for this study, researchers exposed sucralose and sucralose-6-acetate directly to the tissues that line the gut wall.
The result? The chemicals actually caused a leaky gut.
That’s like opening a Pandora’s Box of health problems—most of which would never be traced back to something like Splenda.
Gut cells exposed to sucralose-6-acetate also affected genes related to inflammation, oxidative stress, and carcinogenicity—ALL of which increase your risk of cancer.
The bottom line?
Sucralose is NOT a lesser of two evils. If you want to benefit your waistline, health, and longevity, skip the stuff in the yellow packets AND the white ones.
