[Alert] Popular Drugs Are KILLING Seniors
15 million Americans have a prescription for these drugs.
Millions more take them over the counter.
It’s safe to say that most people think these drugs are perfectly harmless.
But there’s nothing safe about them.
Past studies show that using these drugs for an extended period of time is linked to an increased risk of death.
Now, this latest study has revealed exactly how these drugs are KILLING seniors just like you.
I’m not talking about statins or ACE inhibitors. I’m talking about the drugs I love to hate: proton pump inhibitors.
You know the ones – they go by brand names like Prilosec and Nexium.
Just a few weeks ago I told you about a study showing how much these drugs are overprescribed – a major problem considering how deadly they can be.
That fact has been highlighted by a recent study published in BMJ.
Researchers examined medical data from over 150,000 US veterans over 65 years old, following them for up to 10 years.
Compared to people using another class of drugs called H2 blockers, the PPI group had a 17% increased risk of death.
For every 1,000 people, there were 45 excess deaths.
The researchers found that these excess deaths were caused by heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and stomach cancer.
That’s tragic enough. But what’s even worse?
The report found that more than 50% of the people taking these drugs didn’t even need them.
And it turns out that the risk of death was even higher in the people that were taking the drugs unnecessarily.
The bad news about these drugs keeps rolling in.
And that means I’ll keep spreading the bad news about PPIs until the FDA decides to take some action until doctors stop prescribing them, or until the 15 million people taking them decided to toss them in the trash.
