Are You FIVE Days Away from a Metabolic Meltdown?!
You know junk food is bad for you.
But many assume that eating it “in moderation” won’t do any real harm.
If that’s you, listen up.
An eye-opening study recently revealed how damaging high-calorie, ultra-processed junk foods are.
Shockingly, you may be just five days away from a metabolic meltdown…
When we think about insulin, your brain isn’t the first thing to come to mind.
But in reality, it’s an insulin-sensitive organ. And insulin sensitivity (our body’s ability to use insulin) directly affects it.
In fact, insulin and your brain work hand-in-hand to regulate appetite, mood, cognitive function, and energy metabolism.
Scientists have long understood that insulin resistance in the brain is linked to obesity and type 2 diabetes. But until now, no one knew how FAST this metabolic meltdown happens.
For this study, 29 healthy men followed either their regular diet or their regular diet plus 1,500 daily kilocalories (a kilocalorie equals 1,000 calories) of high-calorie, ultra-processed junk foods for five days.
The volunteers were then given MRIs. After just five days, the junk-food group had significantly reduced insulin sensitivity in their brains and increased fat accumulation in their livers.
Even more concerning are the long-term implications.
Reduced insulin sensitivity remained even after they stopped eating the ultra-processed foods. This means that junk foods eaten for even just a short time (like while on vacation) can lay the foundation for obesity and type 2 diabetes.
The bottom line is making healthy diet choices isn’t a fad or a temporary fix. It’s a lifetime commitment that will pay off in the form of a long, healthy life.
P.S. They got it all WRONG about this heart-healthy food.
