AVOID This Prostate Cancer Risk Factor [Must-Read!]
If you’re a guy, you have a one in 8 chance of being diagnosed with prostate cancer in your lifetime.
Although most men do NOT die of prostate cancer, aggressive prostate cancer still kills thousands of men each year, and represents the second leading cause of cancer death among men.
So, avoiding prostate cancer is good — but avoiding aggressive prostate cancer could save your life.
And avoiding this one risk factor could significantly reduce your odds of aggressive prostate cancer.
It’s a dangerous kind of fat that surrounds your organs called visceral fat.
This is different than subcutaneous fat, which is the kind that you can pinch.
This particular kind of fat increases your risk of metabolic complications like type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and heart disease.
And according to a recent study, it can also increase your risk of aggressive prostate cancer.
Researchers looked at data from 2005 to 2012 and found that abdominal belly fat in particular was associated with an increased risk of aggressive prostate cancer.
Belly fat releases more adipokines. This triggers chronic inflammation, which has been linked to the development of aggressive cancer.
Visceral fat has also been associated with decreased testosterone, and it also leads to hormonal and metabolic variations that can promote the growth of hormone-dependent cancer cells.
This latest finding goes along with other studies linking obesity to an increased risk of at least 11 different types of cancer.
This study takes it a step further, showing that where you’re carrying your extra fat is just as key to its health impact as your weight or BMI.
I love studies like this because they show that you can take your health matters into your own hands by taking control of your weight.
And that’s something all of us can do.
