Can This Simple Eating Trick Save Your Vision?
I’ve told you before – there’s living long, and there’s living well.
You want to do both. And protecting your vision is essential to living well as you age.
You want to be able to see the faces of your loved ones clearly…
Make sure you never miss those special moments, like birthdays, anniversaries, or graduations…
And keep your driver’s license and your independence.
But macular degeneration can threaten all of that.
It’s one of the leading causes of vision loss among seniors and can destroy your central vision.
But researchers have just discovered a simple eating trick that may keep macular degeneration from ever taking hold.
It involves some of my favorite foods – and if you’ve been reading my eletter for a while, you’re already eating them.
If you or someone you love is suffering from macular degeneration – either “wet” or “dry” – you know it’s more than a nuisance.
It’s a direct threat to your quality of life.
Macular degeneration is a progressive eye disease in which the macula—the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision—gradually deteriorates.
People with macular degeneration often experience blurry or distorted vision in the center of their sight, making tasks like reading, recognizing faces, or driving difficult.
Luckily, there may be an easy way to stop macular degeneration in its tracks.
You just need to incorporate more omega-3 fatty acids into your diet.
New research out of Taiwan looked at 18 different studies on omega-3s. Turns out that people with the highest dietary intake of omega-3s lowered their risk of macular degeneration by an impressive 18%.
But it gets better…
When it came to “wet” macular degeneration – the more aggressive type – they lowered their risk by a whopping 43%.
Scientists believe that omega-3 fatty acids—especially DHA and EPA—may help protect the retinas in your eyes by reducing inflammation, supporting the structure of retinal cell membranes, and limiting abnormal blood vessel growth that can damage your macula.
I’ve been recommending for years that you get your omega-3s through diet, and not supplements. And this study backed me up.
The best results occurred in people who added omega-3s to their diets, as opposed to supplementing.
An easy way to get enough omega-3s is to follow the same eating plan I use myself. I follow the Paleo diet – which focuses on REAL meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, and nuts – and I work fish into my diet a few times a week. Often fish I catch myself.
I also confine my eating to an 8-hour window each day. This can help prevent blood sugar spikes, which can also be harmful for your vision.
