Discovered! The Key to a Younger Brain
They say you’re only as old as you feel – and I agree.
I’m not going to slow down or stop doing the things I love just because I’m in my 60s.
Staying “young at heart” is the key to living a rich, fulfilling life in your golden years.
But that’s not all…
It could also be the secret to making your brain feel 10 or even 20 years younger.
A recent study, published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, found that people who FEEL younger have younger brains.
Literally.
To determine this, researchers took MRI scans of participants’ brains and also measured the levels of gray matter in their brains.
Then the people answered questions about whether they felt older or younger than their actual age.
This could be called your “subjective” age.
For example, feeling 60 when you’re really 70. (Or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, feeling 70 when you’re really 60.)
Interestingly, the people who FELT younger than their age literally had a younger brain… meaning the structural characteristics of the brain were younger, their mind was healthier, and their memory was better.
They weren’t as likely to suffer from depression—and overall, they were just in better health.
They also had more gray matter. This is a really important finding since most people tend to lose gray matter with age—and gray matter is involved in memory, speech, and muscle control.
So what does this mean for your health?
If you’ve been feeling older than your years, try boosting your activity level and doing some of the things you used to love.
And, remember, feeling older could be a wake-up call that your brain could use a little extra TLC.
The best ways to keep your brain younger include being physically active, eating brain-boosting foods (like fatty fish, avocado, walnuts, and spinach), staying socially active, and managing stress.
Supplements like CoQ10 can also give your brain an energy boost.
