Drink Away Joint Pain?! (Here’s How to Do It…)
Osteoarthritis is a pain in every sense of the word.
Besides the pain in your joints, it’s a pain in general to have to deal with pain and stiffness when getting out of bed in the morning.
It’s a pain not to be able to walk to the bathroom without pain.
It’s a pain to turn down that hike in the woods because you’re in pain.
Fortunately, researchers have identified a surprising solution for that pain…
And it’s all thanks to a certain tasty drink.
Tart cherry juice is best known for its ability to help relieve gout pain.
But studies show that it’s great for arthritis, too.
Just recently, a study published in the journal Arthritis & Rheumatism evaluated its impact on people with knee osteoarthritis.
For the study, people with knee osteoarthritis drank either two bottles of tart cherry juice or a placebo every day for six weeks.
The group drinking the tart cherry juice ended up having decreased pain scores compared to the placebo group.
This could be in part because tart cherry juice can reduce inflammation in the body (as measured by reduced levels of C-reactive protein), which occurs as a result of the wear and tear on your joints.
There’s just one problem with tart cherry juice… It’s loaded with sugar. It has to be to make the sour berries palatable.
In fact, each bottle of juice used in this study had 31 grams of sugar.
Yikes.
But you don’t have to drink the juice – or the heaps of sugar – to get its benefits.
Other studies show that tart cherry extract can reduce arthritis pain by as much as 20%.
It has all of the benefits, but none of the sugar.
Tart cherry extract supplements are widely available through health food stores and on Amazon.com.
