“Fat Fix” Fights Dry and Flaky Winter Skin
Fat gets a bad rap.
But your body NEEDS fat. It helps you absorb key nutrients such as vitamin D. It gives you energy and supports cell function. It even keeps your cholesterol under control.
You just need to make sure you’re eating the RIGHT kind.
When you choose wisely, fat can protect against heart disease, regulate blood sugar, shield your eyes, and even nourish your skin during the dry winter months.
In fact, one of the fattiest foods on the planet also happens to be one of the HEALTHIEST.
There are many things I question about the millennial generation. But their love of avocados isn’t one of them.
Just one avocado contains nearly 20 grams of unsaturated fat. Plus, it has 10 grams of fiber and healthy doses of potassium, folate, and vitamins C and E.
But the good-for-you-nutrients don’t end there.
- Avocados are also bursting with oleic acid, which help control cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease.
- Plus, the fruit’s lutein and zeaxanthin content protect your eyes.
- And despite the mainstream smear campaign against fat, eating more of THIS fatty food leads to weight loss.
But you might want to put avocados on your shopping list simply because of what they can do for your skin.
In one study, volunteers who ate a daily avocado for eight weeks had SIGNIFICANT improvements in the elasticity and firmness of their skin compared to a control group.
In fact, the fruit is PACKED with skin-friendly nutrients that nourish from the inside out, including…
- Biotin and omega-9 fatty acids to head off dry, flaky skin
- Vitamin C to promote the synthesis of collagen
- Vitamin A to prevent collagen from breaking down
- Vitamin E to protect the skin from oxidative damage
Even high-end pricy moisturizers can’t deliver all of those benefits. (Besides, I bet those expensive creams taste terrible on toast.)
Add avocado to a salad, blend it into a smoothie, whip up some guacamole, or do what the millennials do—and serve it on toast with a drizzle of olive oil.
P.S. Winter can do a number on your skin. You can try slathering on chemical-laden lotions and moisturizers. But I have a better solution. Seven of them, actually.
