FDA FINALLY Bans 6 DEADLY Food Additives
No one every claimed junk food was GOOD for you.
But you might not have realized it was this BAD.
You see, processed foods don’t just contain health-wrecking sugar, they also contain dangerous additives.
After YEARS of dragging their feet, FDA has just banned six of these common food ingredients.
But not because they are bad for you… but because they might just KILL you.
Here’s what you need to know.
The FDA has just issued a ban on six common artificial food additives. These include:
- Benzophenone
- Ethyl acrylate
- Eugenyl methyl ether
- Myrcene
- Pulegone
- And pyridine.
You’ve probably never heard of them, but I guarantee you’ve tasted them
These ingredients are used to mimic natural flavors like mint, citrus, and cinnamon. And they’re found in the kinds of food items that everyone eats, like cereals, baked goods, frozen dairy products, mints, and chewing gum.
The ban came after animal studies revealed that these chemicals increase the risk of cancers like leukemia and histiocytic sarcoma, while also causing kidney and liver problems.
Under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, there’s a clause called the Delaney Clause. It says that the FDA can’t approve any food additive that has been found to cause cancer in humans or animals at any dose.
But before you thank the FDA for doing its job… consider this.
The studies on these ingredients came out in 2006. That’s over TWELVE years ago!
And the ONLY reason the FDA took any action at all was because of a petition signed by activist groups like the Center for Environmental Health and the Center for Food Safety in 2015. That’s THREE years ago.
And they’re giving companies TWO MORE YEARS to find alternative ingredients before the ban goes into effect.
That means these ingredients will have been on the market for 17 years after they were found to cause cancer.
Even in the midst of the ban, the FDA is claiming that these additives are still “safe” because they’re used in much lower quantities than those used in the animal studies.
In the meantime, they are encouraging manufacturers to use real ingredients instead.
Fat chance.
Real ingredients are expensive, which is why manufacturers use the fake stuff to begin with!
And when they do make the switch, I guarantee you’ll be the one footing the bill for the better (more expensive) ingredients.
Here’s the thing. NONE of this has to apply to you.
If you’re skipping the packaged, processed foods, you don’t have to worry about cancer-causing additives – the ones that have been discovered, the ones still unknown, or the ones the FDA is waiting 17 years to pull from the shelves.
Stick to real, natural ingredients – like the ones on the perimeter of the grocery store – and you’ll be just fine.
To a brighter day,
