Getting Radiation? You NEED This Superfood
Cancer treatments are a double-edged sword.
Sure, radiation can blast away cancer cells. The problem, of course, is that it kills your healthy cells right along with it.
Oncologists would call it a necessary evil, or collateral damage.
To me, it’s like using an atomic bomb when what you really need is a trained sniper.
We obviously need more precise treatments.
Until then, there’s something you can do.
Scientists have found that eating a specific superfood while undergoing radiation can give these cancer treatments some much-needed precision. And this food can help protect healthy tissue in the bargain.
Certain natural compounds function as radiosensitizers. These are natural substances that make cancer cells more responsive to radiation.
The benefit is that the radiation can kill the cancer cells more quickly, which allows more of the healthy cells to survive.
A compound found in red grapes called resveratrol has been found to function as a radiosensitizer, and studies have shown that it could be specifically beneficial for prostate cancer.
More recently, a study published in Pathology and Oncology Magazine showed that another type of fruit that contains resveratrol—blueberries—could be beneficial against cervical cancer cells as well.
This study was conducted on human cervical cancer cell lines. The lines were divided into four groups: one that received no treatment, one received radiation only, one received blueberry extract only, and one received both radiation and blueberry.
The results speak for themselves.
The radiation group had a 20% decrease in cancer cells.
The blueberry extract group had a 25% decrease in cancer cells—an improvement over the radiation group.
But by far, the group that blew the rest out of the water was the combination of radiation and blueberry extract group… which saw and amazing 70% decrease in cervical cancer cells.
If you’re suffering from cervical cancer, you might not be able to avoid radiation.
But if you want to give your treatment a significant boost, make sure you’re loading up on whole blueberries or blueberry extract.
To a brighter day,
