“Household Drink” Guards Your Liver!
Liver disease is on the rise around the world.
Rates of liver cancer have more than doubled in the past 40 years.
And other conditions, like chronic liver disease and fatty liver disease are on the rise as well.
And non-alcoholic fatty liver disease affects nearly a quarter of everyone in the US!
The good news is you can take steps to protect your liver.
In fact, one particular drink can lower your risk of developing liver disease—or of dying from it.
Researchers followed nearly 500,000 people for 11 years with one purpose: to see if drinking coffee had an impact on liver health.
The found that compared to non-drinkers, coffee drinkers were:
- 21 percent less likely to develop chronic liver disease
- 20 percent less likely to develop fatty liver disease
- 49 percent less likely to die of chronic liver disease
The maximum benefit was seen in people who drank 3 to 4 cups per day, and in those who drank ground caffeinated or decaf coffee (as opposed to instant).
Of course, you can’t rely on coffee alone to protect your liver health.
The same healthy lifestyle habits that keep your heart and brain healthy keep your liver healthy, too—like not drinking too much alcohol, staying a healthy weight, and exercising.
But for an added boost, consider adding in a few cups of coffee to your day.
It’ll give your liver a boost, and as other studies have shown, it could help regulate your blood sugar levels, reduce your risk of heart failure, boost your mood, and help you live longer, too.
