How to NEVER Get Osteoarthritis (Shocking)
Osteoarthritis is considered a disease of wear and tear.
It occurs when the cartilage that covers your joints between bones wears down, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness.
By the time you’re 65 years old, you have a 50/50 chance of being affected by joint pain. This pain can not only prevent you from doing the things you love (like tennis, dancing, or golf), but can make everyday tasks like walking or climbing stairs riddled with agony.
You’ve been told that the best way to prevent this debilitating age-related condition is to avoid repetitive movements, rest, and hope for the best.
But a recent study showed another shocking factor that can impact your risk.
Your diet.
Researchers studied nearly 2,900 people who were part of the Osteoarthritis Initiative and who had at least one knee free of OA for up to 72 months.
They assessed their dietary patterns and the incidence of knee osteoarthritis.
Over the next 72 months, most of the participants had developed knee OA.
What the researchers found was that following a more Western-style diet was associated with an increased risk of OA, while following a generally healthier diet was associated with a decreased risk of OA.
An unhealthy diet can contribute to osteoarthritis for plenty of reasons…
One is that it tends to lead to weight gain, which places extra pressure on your joints.
It also increases inflammation in your body, and both local and systemic inflammation promote the structural damage that’s at the root of OA.
This fact alone indicates that OA isn’t “simply” a disease of wear and tear.
When it comes to OA, you don’t have to just hope for the best.
You can plan for the best by making a few key dietary changes that reduce the amount of inflammation in your body.
