No-Brainer Solution SLASHES Alzheimer’s Risk
Yesterday, I revealed how to reduce the chance of developing type 2 diabetes even if you’re at an increased genetic risk. (Catch up here.)
Today, I’ll share how to overcome an increased genetic risk of another, far more terrifying disease: brain-destroying Alzheimer’s.
People with the APOE4 gene have double or even triple the risk of developing Alzheimer’s.
And if you have TWO APOE4 genes (one from each parent), you have eight to twelve times the risk.
But one potent, brain-protective nutrient could help you overcome that risk.
For the study, 102 volunteers over 75 took omega-3 supplements or a placebo for three years.
Twenty-eight of those participants had the APOE4 gene.
The folks taking the omega-3 supplements had a significant reduction in the rate of the breakdown of neuronal integrity—specifically in people at the greatest risk of Alzheimer’s.
In other words, people who took omega-3 supplements showed signs that their brain cells stayed healthier longer, slowing down the process of brain cell deterioration.
This means omega-3s can slow down signs of brain damage.
We already knew that omega-3s offer impressive brain protection, but this study took it one step further, showing for the first time that they’re also beneficial for those with a higher genetic risk of the disease.
Bottom line: Omega-3s are a no-brainer when it comes to brain health.
My preferred sources of omega-3s include wild-caught salmon, walnuts, chia seeds, and spinach.
P.S. Omega-3s are fantastic, but why stop there? Try THIS powerful pair to boost brain health.
