Are You Being Overtreated for CANCER? [The Ugly Truth]
Make no mistake about it: Medicine is big business.
I wish most doctors and medical organizations made decisions based on the patient’s best interests — as opposed to the bottom line…
But too often that’s not the case.
What does that mean for you?
It means you could be counseled to get a procedure or a surgery that you DON’T need.
Because let’s face it, mainstream medicine rakes in tons of money from these procedures, and all they’re seeing are dollar signs.
And as a result, some folks are being overtreated.
Here’s what a recent study found….
If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer – especially breast cancer – you might think that treatment is always the best course of action.
But that might not be the case — especially if you’re over 70.
In fact, a recent study found that women over 70 with breast cancer are being overtreated.
Researchers analyzed data from more than 3,000 women over 70 years old who had been diagnosed with ER-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer.
They evaluated the benefits of two common procedures: the sentinel lymph node biopsy (a test to determine if the cancer has spread) and radiotherapy (standard treatment after surgery).
Neither of these procedures comes without risk—which can include severe nerve pain, lymphedema, and skin irritation.
The researchers found that the majority of women over 70 were undergoing these procedures. But here’s the kicker:
Whether or not women underwent these procedures, the rate of disease recurrence and survival remained the same.
And this was regardless of their comorbidities or tumor grade.
In other words, getting these costly, risky procedures provided ZERO benefits for these older women.
The bottom line is that these types of procedures always come with risk.
It’s up to you and your doctor to weigh the risks and benefits before moving forward.
Two important questions you be asking to help you make your decision include:
- How will it impact my quality of life?
- Will it impact my survival?
I know decisions like these are personal and certainly not easy. But sometimes doing NOthing is the BEST thing.
