Popular Drug Deadly for Diabetics?!
In the past few weeks, I’ve highlighted the dangers of some of the most popular drugs on the market.
Like how proton pump inhibitors for stomach acid can increase your risk of dementia.
And how statins can triple your risk of type 2 diabetes.
But what I’m going to warn you about today is even worse.
Because there’s a popular class of drugs taken by millions of people that can increase your risk of DEATH.
Beta-blockers are one of those drugs I love to hate.
Their upside is that studies have shown that they could be life-saving after having a heart attack, or in people with congestive heart failure.
But as with most drugs, their scope of treatment has broadened far beyond being prescribed after a heart attack.
Now they’re often taken long-term by people with fast heart rates, irregular heartbeats, high blood pressure, angina, glaucoma, overactive thyroid…and more.
If you have type 2 diabetes and are also taking beta-blockers, this warning is especially for you.
A study published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings studied more than 3,000 diabetics and found that those taking beta blockers had a significantly higher risk of dying than those not taking the drugs.
And for diabetics who ALSO had coronary heart disease, the risk was even higher.
While beta-blockers can improve survival in people with myocardial infarction, they DON’T improve survival in patients with chronic heart disease—and we have no idea what their benefits are for diabetics with coronary heart disease.
That’s a big fat question mark in the face of a very damning study.
What ISN’T in question here is that diabetes is 100% preventable—which means you don’t have to face the increased risk of heart disease OR the risks associated with beta-blockers.
Simple diet and environment fixes – eating more whole, organic foods, being more active, staying at a healthy weight, spending time in the sun, and mitigating fake light – are PROVEN ways to make sure you never have to give diabetes a second thought.
And there are natural supplements like berberine and chromium that can work wonders when it comes to helping you manage your blood sugar.
