Slash Your Risk of a DEADLY Superbug
Yesterday I shared some exciting research with you about Alzheimer’s. It turns out that improving your gut health could help you dodge this devastating disease.
And, of course, the easiest way to boost those good belly bugs is to take a quality probiotic.
Well, today, I have another excellent reason to add that probiotic to your daily routine.
It could LITERALLY save your life!
New research reveals that having a healthy microbiome is like an insurance policy against a deadly antibiotic-resistant infection.
You see, the bacterium S. aureus causes skin infections that can become fatal if they get into your bloodstream.
You might not be familiar with S. aureus, but you likely HAVE heard of MRSA or methicillin-resistant S. aureus. It’s a superbug that antibiotics can’t kill.
MRSA is the mother of antibiotic-resistant infections. It kills tens of thousands in the USA every year.
Some folks permanently carry S. aureus in their guts. Experts say this likely makes them more susceptible to infection.
The best way to combat antibiotic resistance is to avoid an infection to begin with, of course. That’s where the probiotics come in.
For the recent study, 115 healthy adults who are permanent carriers of S. aureus took either a…
- probiotic supplement of Bacillus subtilis, or
- a placebo
Remarkably after 30 days, the B. subtilis probiotic had safely slashed the amount of S. aureus in stool samples by 97 percent!
Plus, the good bug reduced the amount of S. aureus in nasal samples by an impressive two-thirds.
Now, B. subtilis is a preventative measure. It doesn’t kill S. aureus outright.
Instead, it blocks the bug from multiplying. Which, of course, means your chances of becoming infected plummet.
In other words, in this case, you aren’t using the probiotic to treat established infections but rather to prevent them from happening in the first place.
This study confirms, once again, that filling our guts with GOOD bacteria is a vital weapon in the fight against some of the most devastating diseases of our time.
P.S. It turns out probiotics could also hold the key to protecting your brain health and boosting your cognitive function too. CLICK HERE to find out how.
