Holiday Spice BLASTS Blood Sugar Problems (YUM!)
If you’re not concerned about prediabetes, it’s time for a reality check.
More than 88 million Americans have prediabetes—a number that is expected to balloon to 587 million over the next 25 years if something doesn’t change.
Prediabetes drastically increases your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
But here’s the real problem… Estimates say that more than 84 percent of people who have it don’t even know they’re at risk.
Talk about a ticking time bomb.
But if you’re prediabetic, there’s a way to improve your blood sugar control and put a HALT on the progression to full-blown diabetes.
It’s not with a drug or expensive treatment… or with a radical diet overhaul… but with a tasty, holiday spice that’s in lots of your favorite desserts.
It’s a little early in the season for pumpkin spice lattes and warm apple pie… but it’s never too early to enjoy the health benefits of cinnamon.
In fact, if you’re dealing with prediabetes, this is one spice you want to start taking advantage of right away.
You see, cinnamon has a remarkable ability to help control blood sugar levels—especially in people with prediabetes.
In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, people took either one 500-mg capsule of cinnamon or a placebo three times a day for 12 weeks.
Then the researchers used a fasting plasma glucose test to measure the response.
Not only did the people taking the cinnamon have smaller spikes in their after-meal blood sugar levels, but their levels returned to normal significantly faster.
In other words: Cinnamon helped these people obtain tight control over their blood glucose levels.
Other studies have found similar results.
In one, taking cinnamon was more effective than diet alone in controlling blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. This study showed it was as effective as certain oral diabetes drugs.
In another, small doses of cinnamon reduced blood sugar levels while improving cholesterol and triglyceride levels in type 2 diabetics.
When it comes to out of control blood sugar, you don’t want to get caught with your hand in the cookie jar.
Most people who have prediabetes don’t even know it. Get your blood levels tested so you know where you stand.
And in the meantime, sprinkle some cinnamon spice into your life.
And if you want to take cinnamon in a capsule, make sure it’s the cassia variety (as opposed to Ceylon). Cassia is the variety that has shown benefits in the studies.
