SUPERCHARGE Your Cancer Therapy?! (WOW)
When you have cancer, you want to do everything in your power to BEAT THE DISEASE.
Unfortunately, the “breakthrough” immunotherapy drugs that became available in recent years have failed to live up to their hype, with only 26 percent of patients responding to the drugs.
Not so great for the other 74 percent.
But according to a recent study, there’s a way to help boost your treatment outcomes for people taking immunotherapy drugs for kidney cancer.
This same technique has amazing health benefits for those without cancer, too.
I can’t overstate the importance of your gut health.
Having an abundance of good bacteria—and lots diversity in those bacteria—has been tied to stronger immune systems, better blood sugar control, improved brain health, and the list goes on.
And it turns out it can help improve cancer treatments, too.
Researchers evaluated 31 people with metastatic kidney cancer who were taking immunotherapy drugs.
They collected stool samples at various intervals to compare microbiome sequencing.
What the researchers found was that having a greater variety of gut bacteria was associated with better treatment outcomes for the cancer patients taking immunotherapy drugs.
They also discovered that making changes that improved the gut microbiome DURING the therapy also impacted response rates.
In other words, it’s never too late to achieve the benefits of improving your gut health.
Specifically, people who had the best treatment outcomes had greater abundance of the bacterium Akkermansia muciniphila.
Other studies have also found that this particular bacterium can be beneficial for immunotherapy drugs. It’s also been shown to help in various metabolic disorders and immune diseases.
The best way to boost your gut health—and the diversity in your gut—is by eating a high-fiber diet. (And taking this supplement.)
That means plenty of fruit and vegetables high in fructo-oligosaccharides like bananas, onions, garlic, asparagus, and artichokes—plus grains with resistant starches like barley.
You can also take a high-quality probiotic. Just check the label to make sure it contains Akkermansia muciniphila.
