There isn’t a drug on Earth that Big Pharma lies about more than cholesterol-lowering statins.

They’ve tried to explain away the troubling link between these drugs and diabetes…

And they have a million excuses when you point out that statins aren’t particularly effective at reducing heart attacks or strokes.

But perhaps their most infuriating defense involves statins and muscle pain.

Countless seniors who have taken these drugs end up in agony… with constant aches and painful cramping that seems to come out of nowhere.

The drug companies have tried to claim that maybe statins weren’t causing the problem… as if it was all in your head.

But I’d love to hear what they’re going to say now…

Because a new study has shown for the first time exactly how statins are damaging your muscles and leaving you in pain.

And the problem may be even worse than we imagined.

Researchers from the University of British Columbia in Canada and the University of Wisconsin decided to take a microscopic look at how statins affect muscle tissue.

And what they saw was practically a crime scene…

They used a powerful tool called cryo-electron microscopy to see how statins interact with a critical muscle protein called the ryanodine receptor (RyR1).

RyR1 is like a gatekeeper, regulating calcium levels in cells. But statins bind to it, causing calcium to leak out of cells continuously.

That’s a big problem for you… and your muscles.

This calcium leakage triggers inflammation and activates pain-sensing nerves throughout your body.

Plus, your body interprets the calcium leakage as an injury to your cells. This triggers, you guessed it, more pain.

“That leak of calcium explains why some patients experience muscle pain or, in extreme cases, life-threatening complications,” said one of the lead researchers, Dr. Steven Molinarolo.

In others words, the muscle pain is real… and they can see exactly how it’s happening.

The researchers hope Big Pharma will use these findings to develop safer drugs that don’t interact with your muscles.

Good luck with that…

The main problem with statins is that millions of people are taking them right now under the guise of “prevention,” even though they are at low risk for heart disease. And given all of the side effects with statins, they just don’t pass the risk-benefit test with me in most cases.

There are better ways to protect your heart, like getting lots of sun exposure to support your body’s circadian rhythm, reducing your exposure to electromagnetic fields, and supporting your cells’ mitochondria through foods like fish that are rich in DHA.

That sounds a lot smarter to me than worrying that some drug you don’t need is going to leave you doubled over in pain.
