The Diet Food That’s Making You Fat
There’s no shortage of bad advice when it comes to being healthy and losing weight.
It’s no wonder so many people are fat and sick.
In fact, there’s an entire industry that preys on people who think they’re doing what’s best for their health.
The problem?
The so-called “healthy” choice can not only increase your waistline—it can increase your risk of major diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Everyone knows that sugar is bad for you. Eating too much of it can contribute to weight gain, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.
But does that mean you should reach for “sugar-free” options instead?
Not if you care about your health… or your waistline.
A study published in the journal Cell Metabolism found that the common artificial sweetener sucralose—aka Splenda—can actually increase your blood sugar levels and put you at risk of type 2 diabetes.
While sucralose on its own didn’t produce these results, combining sucralose with a carbohydrate dramatically impacted blood sugar levels.
In fact, it only took seven sugar-free beverages over a two-week period for healthy people to become glucose intolerant.
This means they had higher blood sugar levels and were at an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
Artificial sweeteners are hidden in all kinds of products—baked goods, condiments, syrups, ketchup… basically anything that could say “sugar-free” on the label is loaded with the stuff.
And this is just the latest in a long line of studies showing how bad it is for you.
One found that these sweeteners caused an increase in blood pressure and weight, and an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke in rats.
Another showed that drinking at least two glasses of artificially sweetened soft drinks (diet soda) per day increased the risk of dying from circulatory diseases.
The bottom line is that sugar is bad for you—and artificial sugar is even worse.
Skip the diet sodas, sugar-free labels, and those pink and yellow sugar packets.
