The Eating Habit Increasing Your Risk of Cancer
Yesterday I told you that having ample vitamin D levels can reduce your risk of dying from any cause—and especially dying from cancer.
Today, I want to issue a warning about another nutrient that’s connected to cancer.
According to recent research, not getting enough of it can cause changes in your body that increase your cancer risk.
You may have heard that folate is important for pregnant women. But you don’t have to be pregnant (or a woman!) to make sure you’re getting enough folate and other critical B vitamins.
See, nutrients like folate, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 are critical for reducing your risk of cancer.
These nutrients play a role in methionine synthesis and DNA methylation. If DNA methylation is altered, there’s a greater risk of gene mutations and DNA damage—which increase your risk of cancer.
In fact, this protective mechanism of action is one of the reasons why folate deficiency has been implicated in an increased cancer risk.
This information shouldn’t scare you into buying a folate or other B complex supplement… because studies have also linked TOO MUCH folate to an increased cancer risk.
Instead, I hope it causes you to see why a well-rounded whole food diet is so critical for good health and ultimately, your longevity.
B vitamins are found in foods like leafy greens, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes.
If you’re getting plenty of foods like these in your diet, you can be sure you’re getting all the protection you need from the various B vitamins.
P.S. Speaking of cancer… research shows that this summertime staple contains chemicals that could put you on the path to cancer. Click here for everything you need to know.
