This Modern Habit Is Destroying Kids’ Vision
I’m a granddad now.
And you can bet I want the best for my granddaughter in ALL aspects of her life. Of course, that includes her health.
So, when I read about research showing that kids’ eyesight is under attack, it caught my attention.
I’ll tell you what you need to know—and how I plan to help protect my own granddaughter’s vision.
A recent meta-analysis of 276 studies conducted from 1990 to 2023 found that there’s been an alarming increase in cases of myopia since COVID-19.
At the current rate, about HALF of the kids worldwide will have myopia in the next 25 years.
Myopia, also called nearsightedness, occurs when objects that are far away appear blurry while objects up close are clear.
Myopia used to be considered genetic.
Now, with these dramatic increases, it’s clear there’s more to it. And the way I see it, there’s a double whammy hitting kids these days.
First, they need to spend more time outside in the sun.
Just a few months ago, I told you about a study showing that kids who spend just 15 minutes daily in the sun have lower rates of myopia than kids who don’t.
The second problem is what kids tend to do indoors… which is spend too much time looking at screens, often too close to their eyes.
Kids these days are already spending too much time indoors in front of a screen, but COVID-19 has made everything worse.
The solutions here are simple.
Limit screen time (better yet, ditch the screens altogether), and make sure the kids in your life spend plenty of time outdoors.
But don’t just send them outside. Join them!
You’ll be getting just as many benefits from the sun as they will.
P.S. The weird way you’re ruining your eyesight.
