[Warning] The Craziest Weight-Loss Stunt Yet?!
I swear, Big Pharma is like a pack of bloodhounds…
Once they pick up the smell of money, they can’t let it go.
Right now, prescriptions for GLP-1 weight-loss meds are exploding, and drug companies are making money hand over fist.
Now, everyone is looking to cash in on the weight-loss gold rush.
In fact, there’s a new movement afoot to repurpose a common migraine drug for people looking to shed pounds.
The only problems?
It barely works – and comes with a laundry list of side effects that could leave you feeling sick as a dog.
I guess treating migraines wasn’t enough… not when you can charge a fortune to people looking to get rid of their love handles.
A recent study sang the praises of the migraine drug atogepant, claiming it could help people lose weight.
And you know what happens next, right? Doctors start catching wind of this research – and start prescribing atogepant in droves.
Many won’t even look at the research.
But, guess what?
I did.
And the drug’s performance for weight loss left a lot to be desired.
First off, only about a third of patients lost 5% of their weight or greater over the course of a year – and they had to take a pill every day to do it.
So, if you’re a 200-pound man, that’s maybe 10 pounds lost over an entire year – or less than a pound a month.
Not much to write home about, is it? And most people didn’t even achieve that.
But, wait… it gets worse.
Some of the side effects of atogepant include:
- high blood pressure
- blurred vision
- chest tightness
- cough
- difficulty swallowing
- dizziness
- headache
- and plenty, plenty more.
Are you willing to put up with all of that to maybe lose a pound a month?
Of course not. But, trust me, we’re going to see plenty of these attempts to repurpose existing meds for weight loss.
The gold rush is truly on.
Losing weight doesn’t have to be complicated. Find an activity you like and will stick with – like bike riding or hiking. Pair it with strength and balance training a couple of times a week.
And stick with a diet that emphasizes real foods, and avoids ultra-processed junk.
I follow the Paleo diet, which focuses on foods our caveman ancestors would have eaten, like fish, meat, fruits, vegetables, and nuts.
It’s great for weight and blood sugar control – and unlike Big Pharma’s latest wonder drugs, it’s safe and won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
