New research BLOWS AWAY Old Cancer Advice?!
Yesterday I told you about an activity that can help prevent mild cognitive impairment AND reduce your risk of dying from cancer.
In case you missed it, I’ll give you the short version: It was walking.
One of the studies I covered was presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting. And there were a few additional studies discussed at that meeting that you should know about.
Because they’ve flipped the script on what was once considered gold standard cancer treatment advice.
The new research highlights a different activity that can dramatically reduce your risk of dying from cancer.
Traditionally, cancer patients have been encouraged to rest as much as possible and take it easy. But emerging research is turning that thinking on its head.
The first study included 500 cancer patients with an average age of 56 who had already received treatment. They were assigned to one of two groups:
- Attending health education classes for one month.
- Doing a 75-minute yoga session twice a week for four weeks.
After one month, blood tests revealed that those who did yoga had significantly fewer pro-inflammatory markers than the health education group.
This is a BIG deal for cancer patients as higher inflammation levels can lead to an increased risk of cancer progression, cancer recurrence, or the development of secondary cancers.
The second study evaluated yoga’s impact on fatigue and quality of life in cancer patients.
This study included 173 cancer patients with an average age of 63 who were also split into groups that either did yoga or took a health education class.
Once again, yoga came out the CLEAR winner, measurably reducing fatigue AND improving quality of life.
It’s easy to treat cancer patients with kid gloves, thinking that the less folks do, the safer they’ll be while trying to beat the disease.
But the evidence shows that simply is NOT the case.
When it comes to being active, stretching your body, and even getting your heart rate up, recent studies consistently show that activity improves the quality of life for cancer patients. Plus, it can reduce your risk of the cancer recurring or spreading.
If you don’t want to join a yoga class, you can look for free instructional videos on YouTube. Simply search for keywords like “yoga for cancer patients,” “yoga for seniors,” or “chair yoga,” and you’ll get bunches of options to choose from.
P.S. If you’re a senior over 70, this powerful combo could SLASH your cancer risk by an ASTONISHING 61 percent. CLICK HERE for the scoop.
