Try This 5-Minute Blood Pressure Fix
It’s no secret that I’m a fan of exercise. Any kind of exercise.
I like to push my body to the limit, but even something as simple as gardening or dancing can make a big impact on your health.
But what if you can’t even do that?
What if pain or sickness or depression or lack of motivation – or any of the other 999 reasons – keep you glued to your easy chair most of the day?
Whether you’re a fitness fanatic – or more the sedentary type – I have a simple, 5-minute “exercise” you can do that will boost your heart and your brain.
And you don’t have to lift a finger.
Can something as simple as focused breathing boost your heart and brain health?
Amazingly, the answer is YES.
The technique is called Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training (IMST). Think of it like strength training for your breathing muscles.
It involves breathing through a hand-held device called an inspiratory muscle trainer. It essentially uses resistance settings for inhaling and exhaling in order to build the strength of the breathing muscles in your neck and throat.
The device was originally created for people with breathing problems, like those with COPD or bronchitis.
But when an initial test revealed that doing just 30 inhalations per day lowered blood pressure by 12 mmHg after just 6 weeks, researchers started to look at the bigger picture for these devices.
After, all, that’s better results than exercise or even hypertension medications.
In a follow-up study, researchers tested the inspiratory muscle trainer in 50 middle-aged adults and found that IMST led to significantly lower blood pressure and better function of their large arteries.
Those who did the muscle training also did better on cognitive tests and on treadmill tests.
Anyone of these results would be impressive by itself but taken together, that makes inspiratory muscle strength training truly one of the fastest, easiest ways to improve your heart and your brain.
You can purchase these devices online for under $50. Whether you’re a fitness fanatic or a couch potato, this device can help you see dramatic health improvements.
