The EASY Way to STOP Breast Cancer
Last week I told you about how taking tart cherry can help ease your pain if you’ve got hormone receptor positive breast cancer and taking aromatase inhibitor drugs.
Today I have more news about this common form of breast cancer.
But instead of simply tell you how to alleviate the side effects of the drugs used to treat it…
I’m going to tell you about a breakthrough study that has uncovered a possible way to prevent this cancer from spreading.
It’s easy… and you can get started today!
Cancer is diagnosed in four stages. The earlier you catch it, the better the prognosis.
The reason why stage 4 is so deadly is because by that point, the cancer has spread from the primary point (say the breast) to other parts of the body (like the liver or bones).
A study published in the journal Cancer Research has identified something that promotes the spread of breast cancer.
And that means, more importantly, that it has identified a possible way to keep this dangerous disease in check.
In a mouse model of hormone receptor positive breast cancer (the most common type of breast cancer), the researchers gave the mice a strong dose of antibiotics in order to disrupt their microbiome.
Then they tested for the spread of the breast cancer cells, as well as for inflammation.
First, they saw that treating the mice with antibiotics led to inflammation both in the breast tissue and throughout the body, which made it much more likely for the tumor to spread from the breast to the lungs.
It wasn’t the antibiotics themselves that caused the spread of the tumors, but the impact that the antibiotics had on the microbiome – the community of trillions of bacteria living in your body, primarily in the gut.
Antibiotics destroy good bacteria, making room for bad bacteria to populate your gut.
Adding further proof to the fact that it was the disrupted gut bacteria that influenced the spread of the cancer, the researchers performed a fecal transplant from mice with disrupted microbiomes into mice that had not received the antibiotics.
And just as they suspected… those mice ended up experiencing a similar spread of breast cancer.
Other case studies have found an association between a disrupted microbiome and breast cancer development.
What this means is that it’s entirely possible that the drugs used to treat cancer are encouraging it to spread to other parts of the body.
Now, all of this research is preliminary, but to me, it still highlights the critical importance of good gut health.
Whether you have breast cancer or not (but especially for those who do), the best ways to promote a healthy microbiome include avoiding sugar and processed foods, eating lots of fruits vegetables, and grains, and eating fermented foods.
