Why Are Some People Immune to Viruses?
Coronavirus is in the news every minute of every day.
And let’s face it — some of that news has been downright confusing.
There are many people who have suffered horribly… and even died… from the virus.
And there are other folks who hardly developed symptoms at all.
That may sound odd — but it’s not that uncommon.
Some people almost seem to have a built-in “immunity” to certain viruses, where they don’t get very sick and are able to recover quickly.
So what’s their secret?
Well, if you ask me, the answer lies in their guts.
Your gut plays a big part in your overall health.
After all, 70-80 percent of your immune system is located in your gut.
One key component of gut health is having plenty of healthy, diverse bacteria.
And certain strains of beneficial bacteria are especially effective against viral infections.
In one study, 81 children with rotavirus who had been admitted to the hospital received either a strain of lactobacillus bacteria or a placebo.
Here’s the interesting part. While the prevalence of the rotavirus was similar in both groups, the group taking the probiotic did not become as sick,
In fact, they were only about 20% as likely as the placebo group to develop diarrhea.
That’s a HUGE difference.
Other studies have shown that certain lactobacillus strains are specifically effective against an upper respiratory infection called RSV (respiratory syncytial virus).
There are all kinds of reasons to maintain your gut health— and you can find quality probiotics just about anywhere.
And remember to avoid excess sugar and processed foods, which harm the development of healthy gut bacteria.
