The “Blue Solution” to High Blood Pressure
If your blood pressure is high, you should be taking immediate steps to lower it.
But drugs aren’t the way to do it.
I’ve told you about all kinds of drug-free ways to lower your blood pressure—from walking, to hot baths, to taking a nap.
Today, I have another one to add to the list—and it might just be the best one yet.
In fact, this one is just as effective as the main drugs to treat hypertension.
In a study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, researchers exposed participants to 30 minutes of whole-body blue light.
Then they measured a number of cardiovascular factors.
They found that the blue light reduced systolic (top number) blood pressure by 8 mmHg.
To put that number in perspective, that’s about the reduction produced by blood pressure lowering drugs in clinical trials.
Said another way… blue light is just as effective at lowering blood pressure as Big Pharma’s best drugs.
But unlike the drugs, blue light doesn’t come with dangerous side effects… or a hefty price tag.
But lower blood pressure was just the start.
Blue light therapy also reduced arterial stiffness and increased blood vessel relaxation – two important risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
One way it appeared to work was by increasing levels of nitric oxide, a signaling molecule that is critical for the health of your blood vessels.
Nitric oxide relaxes the blood vessels, which ultimately increases blood flow and lowers blood pressure.
This study showed how beneficial blue light is for your heart, but that doesn’t mean you should run out and buy a blue light unit for your house.
In fact, I advise against it.
To get all the blue light you’ll ever need, all you have to do is step outside in the sun and soak up all of its natural – completely free – blue rays.
The best time of day to get blue light is in the early morning hours.
