REDUCE Risk of Stomach Cancer 73?!
Did you know that having a relative who has had stomach cancer can triple your risk of getting the disease?
That’s the bad news.
The good news is that there’s an easy way to SLASH your risk of developing this deadly disease by more than half—even if the condition runs in the family.
And it couldn’t be easier.
Getting cancer doesn’t have to be a roll of the dice.
The more we discover about the disease, the more we understand the specific, concrete ways to lower your risk of getting sick.
And when it comes to stomach cancer, the key to staying safe and healthy is in eliminating a type of bad bacteria from your gut.
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is most often associated with causing ulcers in the lining of your stomach.
But for some people, infection with H. pylori can lead to cancer.
And the scariest part? About two-thirds of the world’s population is infected with H. pylori.
Fortunately, getting rid of H. pylori could be the best way to stay stomach cancer-free.
In a long-term, randomized study published in the New England Journal Medicine, researchers studied nearly 1700 people who had an H. pylori infection and a first-degree relative with stomach cancer.
One group received a treatment to eradicate the H. pylori (1,000 mg of amoxicillin, 500 mg of clarithromycin, and 30 mg of lansoprazole twice a day for one week), while the second group received no treatment.
After years of follow-up with routine endoscopies, the researchers came to this conclusion: Treating the H. pylori infection cuts the risk of gastric cancer in HALF.
And compared to those who still had the infection, those who successfully got rid of the H. pylori reduced their risk of stomach cancer by 73 percent.
Those are incredible results.
However, I do need to point out that despite the major reduction in the risk of cancer, the overall survival rate was no better in those who got treated than those who didn’t.
So your chances of getting cancer might be lower—but it won’t necessarily help you live longer.
I still believe that getting rid of H. pylori is good for your overall health, whether it reduces your risk of ulcers or cancer.
And anything that can prevent you from getting cancer is a win in my book.
P.S. Cancer is no joke. Which is why you should click here and learn about a cancer trigger that could be hiding in your mouth.
