“Nutrient Hack” for a Longer, Healthier Life
Scientists are diligently searching for ways to slow or stop the aging process so you that you can live longer.
But I’m interested in something better than living longer… I’m interested in living healthier.
After all, who wants to live to 100 if you’re feeble, sick, in pain, and senile?
Not me!
Fortunately, a recent study has identified a simple nutrient hack that’s associated with living healthier and longer.
A few years ago, researchers analyzed data from the National Health and Examination Survey (NHANES), which collected health information from people for three years.
The researchers found that those who took at least two dietary supplements tended to have better cardiometabolic profiles than those who didn’t. These are factors that impact your risk of major health problems like heart disease and diabetes.
The top supplements used by the people in this study included:
- A multivitamin/mineral supplement
- Calcium
- Omega-3s
- Botanical supplements
- Vitamin C
To find out if taking supplements would have long-term benefits, researchers looked at data on people who had been taking supplements for 20 years. They determined that these individuals tended to have better blood levels of key markers of heart health, including:
- total cholesterol,
- HDL cholesterol,
- triglycerides,
- insulin,
- hsCRP, and
- HbA1C levels
And a follow-up study showed that after 30 years of supplement use, people tended to experience much greater health benefits, including parameters like lower LDL and fasting blood glucose levels.
These types studies show that something as simple as taking a few supplements is a key strategy for anyone who wants to live a longer, heathier life.
Now, I like to do things as naturally as possible—which means getting my nutrients from food rather than supplements whenever possible.
But it’s not always possible to get all of the nutrients you need from food alone.
Most people find it difficult to follow an ideal diet. But even for those that do, foods tend to be lacking in nutrients because of soil depletion and picking the produce before it’s ripe.
And for others, certain lifestyle factors or health problems could deplete you of critical nutrients you need.
Because of these factors, I do recommend taking targeted dietary supplements when necessary.
And as these studies have shown, it could be a key hack to living a longer—healthier—life.
P.S. Living a long and healthy life can be difficult especially if you’re struck down by any number of debilitating diseases. Which is why you’ll want to go here and read about the ‘longevity spice’ that BEATS any disease.
