The MISSING Step to Preventing Alzheimer’s
Dear Reader,
It seems like common sense:
When you’re looking for a cure for Alzheimer’s… you’d think you should focus on what’s going on in your brain.
But that’s not necessarily the case.
In fact, new research has found that one of the underlying causes of Alzheimer’s isn’t something that happens in your brain at all.
This discovery has opened the door to a whole new way to help prevent the disease, it’s a step that’s been missing for a long time…
……
If you want to protect your brain, you have to take good care of your mouth.
A recent study showed that the mouth and brain are more connected than we realize… and that good oral health could be a key way to help prevent Alzheimer’s disease!
For this study, 48 healthy seniors underwent oral exams to collect bacteria from their gumlines, and they underwent a lumbar puncture technique to determine levels of amyloid beta and tau in their cerebral spinal fluid.
A buildup of amyloid beta plaques is a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease. These plaques clump together and interfere with your brain’s signaling functions.
The results showed that the people with more harmful bacteria in their mouths were more likely to have LOW levels of amyloid in their CSF.
Low levels in your spinal fluid is considered a warning sign that amyloid beta is building up in your brain.
The researchers believe that having high levels of good bacteria is as important as having low levels of bad bacteria.
That’s because maintaining a healthy balance of oral bacteria is KEY to reducing inflammation and helping prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s.
But preventing Alzheimer’s isn’t the only reason to pay attention to your gum health…
Gum disease has been linked to major diseases ranging from heart disease… to rheumatoid arthritis… to cancer.
And then there’s the direct consequences of gum disease – like plaque, inflammation, and ultimately tooth loss.
But if you think I’m going to recommend brushing and flossing – think again!
Gingivitis is a bacteria issue, and the best way to eliminate bacteria in your mouth is by making changes to your diet.
Cut out sugar and processed foods because they promote the growth of bacteria, and stay away from hydrogenated oils, which are highly inflammatory.
Instead, eat whole, organic food and get plenty of sunlight.
For an added boost, try xylitol chewing gum, which prevents bacteria from building up.
P.S. Oral health as you’ve probably guessed by now, is critical when it comes to your health. And now researchers have identified a hidden danger linked to gum disease. Click here for the facts.
