[Prediabetes]: Hidden DANGERS
You know by now that type 2 diabetes can increase your risk of heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, nerve damage, amputations, and much more.
But if you “only” have pre-diabetes, you might be tempted to think that you’re in the clear.
Not so fast.
Why?
Because a recent study found out that these hidden dangers of pre-diabetes could be just as deadly as diabetes itself.
Prediabetes is considered a warning that diabetes could be right around the corner — it should serve as a wake-up call.
But the problem with this kind of thinking is that most people tend to believe that prediabetes itself is nothing to worry about.
Nothing could be further from the truth!
A recent 14-year study that included over 25,000 people found that having prediabetes significantly increases your risk of having a major cardiovascular event… even if you never progress to full-blown diabetes.
The study found that a major cardiovascular event occurred in 18 percent of those with prediabetes, but just 11 percent of those with normal blood sugar.
And overall, having prediabetes DOUBLED a person’s chance of having a major adverse cardiovascular event.
Just as alarming, the study found that even when people with prediabetes were able to reduce their blood sugar levels, they still had a higher risk compared to people who never had prediabetes.
This is especially alarming considering the alarming number of people with these conditions.
While 1 in 10 Americans has diabetes, a shocking 1 in 3 has prediabetes.
This is an overlooked health disaster just waiting to happen.
That’s because if you have prediabetes, your blood sugar is still higher than it should be. This means that too much sugar is still flooding your bloodstream, where it causes damage and inflammation that can harm your blood vessels.
Don’t be lulled into thinking that prediabetes isn’t a big deal.
It could be a deadly mistake.
