Summer Fruit FIGHTS Diabetes
If you have insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, you might be taught to believe that you need to avoid from fruit.
In fact, your own DOCTOR may have even told you to steer clear!
But numerous studies have shown that certain fruits are actually GREAT for diabetics.
In fact, a recent study just identified one summer fruit that’s been shown to improve insulin resistance and lipid profiles (those tests that measure your lipids and assess your risk of cardiovascular disease).
Summertime brings with it, strawberry season.
And there’s nothing quite like biting into a juicy, ripe strawberry picked straight from the vine.
But if you’re already experiencing high blood sugar, you might think you’ll have to miss out on the juicy goodness.
Think again!
In fact, if you’re overweight or have risk factors for heart disease, this is one fruit you’ll want to be sure to load up on this summer.
A study just published in the journal Nutrients found that eating strawberries every day can dramatically improve heart health.
This study included 33 adults around 53 years old who received strawberry powder every day that was the equivalent of either one or two-and-a-half servings of strawberries.
During the study, they were asked not to eat any other berries, but otherwise followed their normal diets.
By the end of the study, results showed that eating the equivalent of 2.5 servings of strawberries improved numerous cardiometabolic risk markers — including improving insulin resistance and lipid profiles.
Yes, you read that right – sweet, juicy strawberries can help with insulin resistance!
That beats a potato chip or cookie any day of the week.
I don’t know about you, but I could eat 2.5 servings of strawberries in one sitting.
But you could also add them to smoothies, put them on cereal or yogurt, or add them to a fresh fruit salad.
