Prevent Alzheimer’s in Just 20 Minutes a Day?
You know that exercise helps your body.
But it’s just as critical for your brain.
Past research has shown that exercise boosts memory and thinking skills, and that it lowers the risk of cognitive impairment.
It’s even been shown to lower the risk of dementia!
It boosts blood flow to your brain, reduces stress hormones, lowers levels of stress hormones, and more.
See, when your body functions better, your brain functions better, too.
But what about people who are already suffering from mild cognitive impairment (MCI)?
People who already experience mild cognitive impairment are much more likely to progress to Alzheimer’s disease.
So, in a recent study, researchers wanted to find out if exercise could help protect the brains of people already suffering from MCI.
For the study, researchers analyzed data on about 247,000 people with mild cognitive impairment over six years.
The results showed that in these individuals, those who performed vigorous exercise for more than 10 minutes, and for more than ONCE per week, had an 18 percent lower risk of progressing to Alzheimer’s disease during the study period.
Even better, those who exercised 3 to 5 times per week and an additional 15 percent lower risk of Alzheimer’s compared to those who didn’t exercise as much.
This was the equivalent of a “dose-dependent relationship” — meaning the more you do it, the greater the protection.
Even though this was an observational study, this adds strength to the connection between exercise and brain health.
I’m excited about a study like this because it shows that it’s never too late to make a real difference in your health.
These individuals were already in the throes of mental decline, and regular exercise helped prevent further deterioration.
In fact, not only is it never too late to start… but if you’re already experiencing mild cognitive impairment, it’s especially important that you add in exercise to your brain health routine.
It could be the key element that saves you from Alzheimer’s disease.
