How to SUPERCHARGE Your Walks (Simple)
It can help you burn more fat
You already know that walking is one of the best forms of exercise.
It can boost circulation, strengthen muscles and bones, improve sleep, help you lose weight, boost your mood, and even help you live longer.
And best of all, most people can do it.
But there’s a simple way to help supercharge the benefits of your daily walk.
And it couldn’t be easier!
I’m sure you’ve heard the jokes about people who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.
Of course, most people can walk and chew gum at the same time — and that’s great.
Why?
Because chewing gum is a simple way to help boost the benefits of walking!
For this study, 46 people went on a 15-minute walk on two separate occasions.
The first time, they chewed two pieces of gum while walking.
The second time, they didn’t chew the gum.
The researchers tracked measures like heart rate, distance walked, walking speed, step count, etc.
One hundred percent of participants had a significantly higher heart rate while walking when they were chewing gum.
They increased the number of calories burned.
They also experienced a greater difference between their resting and active heart rate (faster heart rate = more calories burned).
Many of the participants also increased their walking speed, distance traveled, and steps taken while they were chewing gum, compared to when they weren’t.
Now, the study didn’t evaluate why chewing gum led to these benefits.
But it likely has to do with something called cardio-locomotor synchronization, which is the tendency of your heart to beat in a pattern with other repetitive movements.
Whatever the reason, I personally like to get the most bang for my buck.
Chewing some gum while walking could represent a very easy way to do that.
For even more benefit, consider chewing xylitol gum, a unique chewing gum that can help prevent plaque buildup, counteract oral bacteria, and freshen your breath.
