8 Lifestyle Factors SKYROCKETING Your Cancer Risk
Simple changes to stay cancer-free
No one wants to get cancer.
But did you know that you’re probably doing things every single day that increase your risk?
If you want to stay ahead of cancer, you have to do more than hope for the best.
You have to take matters into your own hands.
You can start by avoiding these eight lifestyle factors that are shown to send your cancer risk through the roof.
- Sitting Too Much
This isn’t about the benefits of exercise… it’s about the dangers of sitting around too much.
Research has shown that sitting 8-9 hours per day can increase your risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and an early death.
In fact, one study showed that sitting and watching TV for just TWO HOURS increased the risk of colorectal cancer by 70 percent!
- Overcooking Your Meat
Meat is great for you — especially if you’re eating organic, grass-fed meat. But you’ll be canceling out much of its benefits if you’re overcooking it.
See, when you cook meat at high temperatures, it develops chemical compounds called heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. These compounds can affect your DNA and make you more susceptible to certain types of cancer.
- Watching TV in Bed
Call me old fashioned, but your bedroom is no place for a TV. Not only can it interfere with your sex life and your sleep, but it can place you at a higher risk of prostate cancer.
The blue light that comes from the TV interferes with your melatonin production and your natural sleep cycle, which can impact your risk of cancer.
- Skipping Your Fruits and Vegetables
If your so-called healthy diet isn’t loaded with fruit and green leafy vegetables, then you’re missing out on the fiber and antioxidants that can help fight free radicals that can damage your cells.
Not getting enough fiber has been specifically tied to colon cancer.
- Eating Regular Oats
Oats — and oatmeal — are great for you… as long as they’re organic. Non-organic oats have been sprayed with a pesticide called glyphosate, which disrupts your microbiome and impacts your immune system.
Numerous lawsuits have linked glyphosate to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
And one study showed that every breakfast cereal they tested contained glyphosate in amounts above the safe limit for children.
This pesticide is also sprayed on other “healthy” foods like wheat and corn.
- Not Getting Enough Sleep
A lack of good, quality sleep has been linked to cancer and heart disease.
Sleep is critical for your health because that’s when your body goes to work repairing the damage done throughout the day… fixing cellular damage, removing toxins from your brain, and keeping your metabolism on track.
- Eating Processed Meat
I’m a fan of meat… but NOT of processed meat.
Hot dogs, lunch meat, sausages and the like are such a major risk to your health that the World Health Organization has labeled them a group 1 carcinogen because of their tie to colon cancer.
This likely comes from the nitrates used as a preservative.
- Consuming Too Much Sugar
By now you know to limit your sugar intake… and this especially includes sugar-sweetened beverages.
Not only do these drinks increase your risk of obesity and diabetes, but they increase your risk of cancer—and of dying from cancer.
One study showed that each 12-ounce serving of sugary drinks was associated with a seven percent increased risk of death from any cause, and a five percent increased risk of dying from cancer.
