Eat THIS to Beat Antibiotic Resistance
Isn’t it nice to know that any time you have a UTI, a sinus infection, or strep throat, you can get a prescription for an antibiotic and start feeling better in days?
And typically, the infection itself can be completely knocked out in two weeks or less.
It’s the miracle of modern medicine.
Now, imagine suffering from any of these infections (or bronchitis, pneumonia, a tooth infection, or any number of issues)… and being told there’s nothing that can be done.
You might not want to imagine a world in which antibiotics don’t work. But like it or not, antibiotic resistance is on the rise, and it kills tens of thousands of people every year.
That’s why it’s more important than ever help strengthen your body’s own defenses so that you can avoid an infection that modern medicine might not be able to treat.
Here’s yet another way to do that.
The majority of your immune system resides in your gut.
That’s why when it comes to staying healthy and beating disease, you can’t afford NOT to pay attention to gut health.
The bacteria in your gut, called your microbiome, helps boost your immune defense against every kind of microbial invader.
It could also be the key to avoiding antibiotic resistance.
In a recent study, researchers found that one specific superfood was able to slash the amount of antibiotic-resistance genes present in the body:
Fiber.
When researchers evaluated what people ate in a 24-hour period, they found that those who ate the most fiber had the least amount of antibiotic-resistant genes.
This might not prevent you from getting an infection to begin with—but by lowering antibiotic-resistance, it can help ensure that the drugs work if you do develop an infection.
Antibiotic resistance starts in the microbiome… but it can also end there.
Of course, including more fiber in your diet is a good idea for plenty of reasons beyond preventing antibiotic resistance.
Fiber is found in plant-based foods like vegetables, fruit, grains, nuts, and legumes.
This is a perfect example of eating to beat disease.
P.S. Bacteria are figuring out how to outlive antibiotics… and creating a scary future where even the most minor infection could turn deadly. But there’s good news… Canadian researchers believe that an age-old tiny berry cure could help END this health crisis before it begins. Read about it, right here.
