Reduce Risk of COVID-19 Death by 50%?! [STUDY]
Getting COVID-19 is one thing.
Surviving it is another.
Although we’re not in the thick of the epidemic anymore, thousands of people still get COVID-19 every day. And far too many people are still dying from it.
But new research has revealed a surprising step that could help assure you’re not one of them.
We need more research to be completed, of course. But what we’ve seen so far is already quite promising.
If you do end up with COVID-19, researchers have identified a medication that could lower hospitalization and death by a whopping 50 percent.
This was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. In other words, the best kind. It included 1,323 overweight adults who had been diagnosed with COVID-19 for three days or less.
The volunteers took one of three drugs—metformin, ivermectin, or fluvoxamine—or a placebo for 3 to 14 days and tracked their symptoms.
- Metformin is a type 2 diabetes medication.
- Ivermectin is an antiparasitic medication.
- Fluvoxamine is an antidepressant.
The study’s primary outcome was to identify if these medications prevented low oxygen levels on a home oxygen monitor.
The effect on COVID-19 severity was a secondary outcome. But it quickly became the factor that made headlines. Because while NONE of the medications had an impact on the primary outcome, one of the drugs stood out for its protective effects against serious cases of COVID-19.
Results showed that in people taking metformin, the odds of emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and deaths were lowered by 40 percent.
And if the drug was prescribed very early in the onset of symptoms, the odds were lowered by 50 percent. 50 percent!
Other studies have shown that metformin inhibited COVID-19 in lab studies. So this study appears to support its effectiveness in combatting serious outcomes from the virus.
Something that provides a 50 percent reduction in hospitalizations and death rates is definitely an ally I’d want in my corner if I came down with COVID-19 again.
If you test positive for COVID-19, talk to your doctor about metformin.
P.S. With fall right around the corner and us spending more time indoors, COVID-19 cases are likely to rise. The more tools you have to fight off a severe infection, the better. If you catch the virus, consider this strange fasting trick which was shown to reduce hospitalizations too.
