For the first study, published in the Annals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, researchers used a group of mice genetically engineered to develop Alzheimer’s.

Half got a diet rich in olive oil, and half didn’t.

And the differences were ENORMOUS.

The group that got the olive oil performed significantly better on working memory, spatial memory (like remembering your way home or the layout of your house), and learning ability.

Pretty much everything that matters.

Taking olive oil led to significant reductions in amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles—two of the main culprits behind Alzheimer’s disease.

Hot on this study’s heels was more glowing news for olive oil: A study published in the Journal of Molecular Biology shows it can help prevent brain cancer.

In this study, researchers found that olive oil’s main monounsaturated fatty acid, oleic acid, has special functions that put a stop to cancer-causing protein activity in brain cells.

These two studies are the latest in a long line of research showing that olive oil does everything from reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes, to combatting osteoporosis, to battling depression.

But buyer beware. Not all olive oils are created equal.
