DELAY Alzheimer’s by 5 Years?!
Preventing Alzheimer’s is the BEST option…
But delaying it is the next best thing.
Delaying an Alzheimer’s diagnosis could literally add years to your life — and improve your quality of life.
And in a recent study, researchers identified a fun, unique way to push back a diagnosis by as much as 5 years.
For this study, researchers looked at data on 1,900 people around 80 years old.
None of them had dementia at the start of the study.
They were followed for an average of 7 years — and they even agreed to have their brains autopsied in the event of their death.
Those with the highest level of cognitive activity later in life — which involved things like reading, writing, and playing games like cards or puzzles — developed Alzheimer’s disease an average of 5 years later than those with the lowest level of cognitive activity.
Interestingly, factors like social activity, gender, and the amount of cognitive activity early in life had little impact on the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease.
Here’s what we can take away from this study.
First, exercising your brain can help delay the onset of Alzheimer’s.
Second, you’re never too old to make changes that can positively impact your brain health.
As this study showed, actively exercising your brain in old age delayed the onset of Alzheimer’s by FIVE whole years.
Imaging what you could do with five more years of being YOU.
Not only are the activities that help protect your brain enjoyable, but they can help provide you with even more years to continue enjoying them.
I call that a win-win.
