Natural Duo Stops Cancer Cells Cold
Beating ovarian cancer shouldn’t come down to a coin flip.
But for the thousands of women who are diagnosed each year, that’s exactly what it is.
For the most common type of ovarian cancer, the five-year survival rate is only about 50 percent.
But you and the women you love deserve better than a 50-50 chance of beating the disease… you need something that can tip the odds in your favor.
And Wisconsin researchers may have just taken a big step forward in finding it.
In a new lab study, they discovered a two-nutrient combo that helped stop even the toughest ovarian cancer cells from growing and spreading.
And if you’ve been reading my eletter for a while, you’re in luck – because these are two nutrients I have been recommending for years.
First, let’s talk about what this study showed… and what it didn’t.
Scientists from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay tested vitamin D and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) against what is known as the OVCAR4 line of ovarian cancer cells.
That’s actually a big deal, because OVCAR4 is no pushover – it’s an aggressive line of ovarian cancer cells that is known for being resistant to conventional cancer drugs.
So, if anything, these researchers were stacking the odds against themselves – but vitamin D and DHA came through with flying colors anyway.
First off, both vitamin D and DHA inhibited the growth and spread of cancer cells on their own – but when they were combined, researchers saw an even stronger multiplier effect.
It was as if these two nutrients teamed up directly to attack and fight the cancer cells!
Even better? The longer the researchers treated the cancer cells with vitamin D and DHA, the better they worked.
Now, it’s important to understand that this was a study on cells in a lab… not on real cancer patients.
But there’s plenty of previous research showing that vitamin D and DHA can be strong weapons in the fight against cancer.
A 2020 study published in JAMA Network Open found that men and women who supplemented with 2,000 international units (IU) of vitamin D each day for an average of 5 years were nearly 20% less likely to have an advanced cancer.
And a 2024 study published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings found that people with the highest DHA levels had a 17% lower risk of dying from cancer.
Now, as you know, my favorite source of vitamin D is the sun. Get sun exposure every day, especially in the morning, which helps set your circadian rhythm for the day. A healthy circadian rhythm is also protective against cancer.
But if you live somewhere that doesn’t get much sunlight this time of year, you might want to get your D levels checked and supplement as necessary.
For DHA, start adding more fish to your diet. Fish are a staple on my menu each week, often fish I catch myself.
Here’s hoping that these easy, small changes can tip the odds against ovarian cancer in your favor.
