Do you remember the candy called Now and Later?

That’s kind of like your health.

What you do NOW will impact how you live LATER.

And if you’d like to avoid serious diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases later in life, there’s something you need to start doing right now.

The sooner the better.

The fact that diet and lifestyle are important is nothing new.

The fact that living a healthy lifestyle could actually help you live longer is finally starting to get the attention it deserves.

And now, a study published by JAMA Cardiology proves that the longer you follow a healthy lifestyle, the lower your risk of disease and death.

Researchers tracked patients for 16 years and assessed their development of disease or death. They found that compared to people with poor heart health, for each 5-year period people had good heart health, they were…

  • 33 percent less likely to develop high blood pressure
  • 25 percent less likely to develop diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular disease
  • 14 percent less likely to die

In other words, the sooner you start making good lifestyle choices, the longer you’ll benefit from them.

These lifestyle habits included all the basics, like not smoking, eating healthy, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and maintaining healthy blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol.

This isn’t exactly breaking news, but it does highlight once again the dramatic health and longevity effects of the choices you make every day.

The sooner you make them, the better.

Keep tuning in to my articles, where I’ll continue to share specific, practical tips to help you make one good choice at a time.
