The 5-Minute Trick for “NEW” Knees (Easy!)
If you’re suffering from the pain and stiffness of arthritis, your future is predictable.
Pain-relieving drugs.
Physical therapy.
Cortisone injections.
And ultimately… a complete joint replacement.
Here’s something that’s NOT predictable.
There’s a drug-free way to reduce your risk of needing a total knee replacement. And it only takes 5 minutes.
If you have arthritis in your knee, the last thing you want to do is to go for a brisk walk.
But it turns out that it could be the best thing for you.
For this study, patients with knee osteoarthritis wore accelerometers to measure walking speed (from non-walking to strolling to vigorous walking) for 4-7 days. Then the researchers followed them for about 48 months.
They found that people who started walking just 5 minutes per day reduced their risk of total knee replacement surgery by 16 percent over five years.
But there’s a catch.
The 5-minute benefits only came from BRISK walking.
Light walking (for that short amount of time) had no effect.
This makes sense since activity helps maintain muscle conditioning and fluid production, which helps support your joints and protect cartilage.
Doctors and surgeons are quick to push knee replacements, but they’re not a permanent solution. And since they’re only temporary, the longer you can delay getting one, the better.
This could represent a HUGE amount of people avoiding these surgeries.
In 2005, there were about 450,000 knee replacements every year. And by 2030, that number is expected to hit 3.4 million.
