This Superfood PREVENTS 2nd Heart Attack
I often write about ways to avoid heart disease.
But what if you already have it?
Well, there’s good news for you, too.
A recent study has found a key superfood that can help lower the risk of a second cardiovascular event—and even death—in those who already have heart disease.
There’s no doubt that what you eat impacts your heart health.
Most food-related advice revolves around what NOT to eat… like fried foods and sugar.
I can’t argue with that.
But I’ve found that my patients are much more successful if they focus on what TO eat instead of what NOT to eat.
If you could only add one thing to your diet to improve your overall health, it would be this:
Eat more fatty fish.
Oily fish like salmon, tuna, and mackerel are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which do wonders for your heart and your brain.
Studies consistently show that people who eat a lot of fatty fish have a lower risk of heart attack and stroke.
But what about people who already have heart problems?
Well, fish provides extra protection for you as well.
In a recent study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, researchers reviewed data on 192,000 people—about a quarter of which already had cardiovascular disease.
The study showed that in people who already had heart disease or who had suffered a stroke, eating fish twice a week lowered the risk of having another cardiovascular event—and even of dying—by 17 percent.
This study showed the benefit of eating the food itself, not of supplementing with omega-3s.
If you need extra omega-3s, or if you’re not able to incorporate fish into your diet a few times a week, then by all means, take a supplement.
But getting it straight from the source is always your best option—whether you have heart disease or not.
P.S. No one wants to have a heart attack. But if you DO have one, you want to make sure you live to tell about it. Fortunately, it’s not just a toss of the coin. Click here and read about this must-know secret on how to survive a heart attack.
